Disco 80′s Costumes
The flamboyant, disco 80′s costumes are still hot with retro fans
Disco 80′s Costumes

Those ultra flamboyant disco 80′s costumes drove the disco scene. These were bold and colorful … not for the shy type. Looked like they competed for who is dresses more outrageously.
Dress colors were also brilliant, but here the costume acquired variety and became individualized. Rock star looks varied from Marilyn Monroe glamor to slinky fake lizard fabrics interspersed with a little metallic threading.
There were also those outrageous ballerina-styled costumes that featured a brilliantly colored bodice and nylon net mid-thigh – not mini-skirt that were favorite 80′s costumes for disco.
Bell-bottom pants with blouses were also in fashion, with the bell being highly exaggerated. The other variation to these were the mini dresses, with long bell bottom sleeves and gigantically patterned fabrics.
Men’s clothes were a little less outrageous. The dude who wanted to look cool might show up in a black dress shirt, sans tie and an over-sized sport jacket and slacks, in a neutral color. The woman was allowed to get all the attention.
Then there were the men who tried to out-do his woman’s costume, sporting a brilliant yellow, patent leather, zip-up suit with perhaps a bright red trim at neck and pant hem.

80′s Hairstyles
Getting your hair bleached blond was desirable. For those not into bleaching, a blond wig used to pull this off with the right panache.
Long hair and especially big and lots of curls. Then there were the color mixes, like your regular hair on one side and a shocking red on the other.
Large hats, decorated with feathers, large and brightly colored plastic flowers were also cool for some 80′s costume devotees.
80′s Shoes
The favored material for shoes was shiny, in-your-face patent leather. As with all the other component of the 80′s costume, colors ranged from bright to brighter to day-glo. There were no subtle colors in disco 80′s costumes. Think of colors like hot pink, canary yellow and fire engine red.
